MT LYFORD SKI AREA

 

Season:    Mid June to Late September.

 

Location:

  • 26km from Waiau

  • 60km from Hanmer Spring

  • 146km from Christchurch                              

  • 60km from Kaikoura

      

The access road turns off Highway 70 about 26km's after Waiau.

From the Mt Lyford Lodge it is a 8km long well maintained gravel road which passes through native Beach Forest and into alpine terrain. It passes through the lower of the two areas at Mount Lyford, Lake Stella the original ski area, from here it is a easy drive to the Mt Terako Basin, this is where you will find the Ski Area.

MT TERAKO BASIN

 

Elevation:

  • 1750m at the top of Mt Terako

  • 1510m at the Terako Basin lodge

  • 1249m at the Lake Stella area 

 

Vertical Drop:

  • 450m at Terako Basin

 

Terrain:

  • 30% Beginner

  • 40% Intermediate

  • 30% Advanced

  • One T-bar

  • One 180m fixed grip

  • One advanced rope tow: LOWER & UPPER.
